Nestled between parkland and numerous mature trees, this family home provides connection to a desirable Studio City location, while yet maintaining the atmosphere of a serene retreat.
The oversized lot, ringed by old growth trees, provided ample opportunities that the existing home was not capturing. Poorly sited, with minimal connection to the natural landscape, the best course of action was to mostly demolish the home and start anew.
The resulting new home provides for a separation between private zones, and areas for entertaining. The home is organized around a central garden that brings light into many areas of the home and helps to buffer private areas from more public areas.
Natural and rustic materials were chosen to compliment the connection to the natural setting. Natural terracotta, reclaimed timber, douglas fir and accoya siding, and custom-built oak cabinetry are used as finishes throughout. A palette of warm organic tones and materials help to blend the border between home and garden, and create a comfortable family home.
